Woven Voices is more than a concert—it’s an immersive East–West music experience where ancient Chinese guzheng meets cello, piano, and double bass on one stage. For one night only in Dallas, this world‑premiere program weaves a rich traditional repertoire, newly crafted original pieces, and a bold reimagining of Tan Dun’s Oscar‑winning score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon into a single, cinematic journey.
Through groundbreaking techniques, the artists crack the code of this famously dense symphonic score, pushing the guzheng, in particular, far beyond its traditional limits. The result is an unforgettable experience where its full cinematic power erupts in a visceral, heart‑pounding performance that must be felt live. Even Tan Dun himself described this kind of reimagining as nearly impossible, and now Dallas audiences will witness it for the very first time.

Cello
Joseph Kuipers is an international cello virtuoso based in Texas, a protégé of legendary cellist Steven Isserlis, and a collaborator of Yo‑Yo Ma. Performing on a ca. 1710 Francesco Gobetti cello—a nearly 300‑year‑old Venetian masterpiece famed for its dark, singing tone—he brings both historic depth and modern innovation to Woven Voices.
Wan Chun Shui (Taiwan)
Guzheng
Wan Chun Shui is an internationally acclaimed guzheng legend from Taiwan and a national‑treasure‑level master of the instrument. Born into the renowned Dunhuang Shui family, she comes from the lineage that defined the modern 21‑string guzheng, reshaping how the instrument is built and played in the contemporary era.
For Woven Voices, Shui will perform on a bespoke, million‑dollar guzheng brought specially from Taiwan for this concert
Uko Adams (Texas)
Guzheng
Texas‑based curator and guzheng virtuoso Uko Adams is one of the most influential guzheng artists in USA and a direct disciple of Wan Chun Shui. For Woven Voices, she leads the artistic vision and unlock new techniques that make this Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon reimagining possible on guzheng for the very first time.
Adams will unleash her bespoke million‑dollar guzheng to the Dallas audience as well.
